Spring Lake Goodwill Fire Co., #2

Goodwill Fire Co. No.2 was originally Goodwill Engine Co., No.1, the fire company of North Spring Lake, organized in December, 1901. Later the borough consolidated with Spring Lake Beach.

In June 1903, Goodwill was extended the use of fire Co. #1, the rooms and buildings under the same conditions of its own members. In November, 1903, then Chief Trout of Fire Co., No.1, loaned to Goodwill a fire bugle for their use.

F.W. Newman was the first chief of Goodwill, records do not reflect when engine Co. No.1 changed its name to Goodwill Fire Co., No.2. Nor does any show when Goodwill was quartered at its present location of 311 Washington Avenue, Spring Lake. In 1951 when Goodwill celebrated its 50th anniversary, the chief of the department was Arch Weinmiller.

In 1976, Goodwill Fire Co. Had its 75 anniversary. Arch Weinmiller was their oldest active member.

Through out the past 97 years there have been many fires and responses. Both in the borough and in other towns as mutual aid. The Goodwill Fire Co., No.2 has responded to the dedication and duty. In April 1974, Goodwill was presented with a Gold Star Plaque from the Boy Scouts of America for 50 years of sponsorship of troop #31 of Spring Lake, NJ.

May 1969, Goodwill received its first Junior associate fireman. In December, 1972 our by-laws were revised to include all applicants of the age of 18 or above.
